Brockton Interfaith group sets rally at bank

By Erik Potter

Brockton Interfaith Community will hold a rally outside the Bank of America branch on Crescent Street on Saturday as part of the group’s effort to raise awareness of the continuing problem of home foreclosures.

The community organization is calling on Bank of America, as well as other national lenders, to be more cooperative with homeowners and municipalities in renegotiating home loans and addressing foreclosures, which continue to hit Brockton the hardest in the state.

Janine Carreiro, lead organizer at BIC, said the group’s national association is discussing the same issues with banks at a national level.

Brockton residents will be dropping off an information packet at the local Bank of America – the only national bank with a branch in the city – on Saturday morning.

The rally will take place at 10 a.m. in front of the bank at 695 Crescent St.

“This is just another one of those visual demonstrations of the fact that not enough is being done to handle this problem,” Carreiro said.
