About BIC

Meet the Staff

Our Organizer

Julie Aronowitz has been passionate about faith and community change since she was dragged to her first synagogue committee meeting with her mother as a young child. She is thrilled to be putting her faith in action working at BIC. A graduate of the JOIN for Justice Organizing fellowship, Julie has done work to further financial literacy and affordable housing in Chelsea, MA, and to engage the Jewish community in social justice and organizing work in the Greater Boston area. Julie recently received a Master’s Degree in Community Leadership from Brandeis University, where she did coursework in public policy, advocacy, development and community organizing. She is excited to get to know the people of Brockton better, and to help build power for real and lasting change.

Our Organizer

Isabel Lopez is happy to be back in Brockton, as it is the city that received her when she was trying to adjust to this country. She is very excited to learn, share, and start working together with people that live and work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for families that live in this city! She is very passionate and motivated to organize for the change needed in our communities to live safe and healthy. For the past eighteen years, she has been part of different social justice fronts, here and abroad. Most of her career has been working with parents in public schools, finding homes for the homeless, organizing tenants and working with workers. She recently spent almost two years working to bring dignity and justice to workers in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. She looks forward to joining the team of empowered brothers and sisters, faith leaders, and allies in the community to engage with everyone to promote and strengthen the vision and mission of the Brockton Interfaith Community. Isabel joined the BIC staff in May 2014.

You can contact Isabel at isabellopez.bic@gmail.com or 617-306-1365 (cell).

Our Communications Fellow

Lucas Bradley is a 2014 graduate of Stonehill College where he studied Religious Studies and Political Science. He will work at BIC for the next year as a participant in the Stonehill Service Corps. At Stonehill College, he studied in Washington, D.C., where he interned and took a seminar course looking at the communities in the city and how public policy can strengthen them. As a participant in Stonehill’s H.O.P.E. Program, Lucas traveled to Phoenix, AZ for an alternative spring break trip to serve a community in need. These experiences, as well as other volunteer opportunities, convinced Lucas to apply for the Stonehill Service Corps so he could live out his faith and serve an amazing community. As communications fellow, Lucas is excited to learn more about Brockton, it’s people, and the great work of the Brockton Interfaith Community.

You can contact Lucas at lucasbradley.bic@gmail.com or at 508-587-9550 (office).

Our Office Manager

Tom is a member of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Patrick Church, which was the mother church to the many other Catholic parishes in Brockton and in 1998 played a vital role in the initial development and creation of Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC). Tom is a life-long resident of Brockton, having lived here for the last 48 years and has seen many changes to the city during that time. Tom has been serving the BIC community since the start; beginning with the all-important legwork and making his way to the positions of Communications Director and Secretary of the Executive Board. As the office manager, He helps the office run smoothly each day as well as keeping track of fundraising and development, along with our annual fundraiser, and many other projects and work in the background. Tom chooses to offer his leadership in the grassroots organizing that BIC performs because he has seen first-hand that BIC works for change… real change.

Looking for Janine? As of February 2014, Janine has joined the staff of our statewide umbrella organization, MCAN, as Deputy Director. She can now be reached at jcarreiro@mcan-pico.org
